FA Belmont
Excellence through Commitment
What is FA Belmont?
FA Belmont is a dynamic soccer academy program being offered at Belmont Secondary School. This program is in its fourth year of operation, and is an exciting opportunity for Belmont students. FA Belmont is currently headed by Troy Harris, a Sooke District teacher, who has been involved in the local soccer community for the past 30 years.
How will the Soccer Academy fit into my child’s schedule?
FA Belmont is a program that will be offered inside of the regular timetable, occupying one block of the student’s schedule each semester. Students will receive an average of 3 to 4 on field sessions each week, as well as a classroom component on Friday. FA Belmont trains at Goudy Field at City Centre Park, just minutes away from Belmont, and we hope that we will be able to continue working at this facility for many years.
Is this program the right fit?
FA Belmont is a program for students who possess enthusiasm for the sport of soccer. It is not a program reserved only for elite players within the sport, but welcomes players of all skill levels who are committed to development both as soccer players and as individuals. There is a significant expectation that the athletes involved are committed to working hard, developing their skills, and have interest in considerable personal growth.
What does FA Belmont expect from my child?
FA Belmont expects its students to achieve "excellence through commitment". Students of the soccer academy need to demonstrate a strong work ethic and desire to improve, keeping in mind that students will only “get out what they choose to put in”. It is important for all players to remember that we must work as hard as possible each and every day, with an understanding that our ability and effort will vary depending on the particular day. FA Belmont will expect all students to demonstrate respect toward teammates, coaches, officials, opponents, and all other staff that they will interact with on a regular basis. Players of FA Belmont will constantly be reminded of the expectation for them to be exceptional citizens of both Belmont and our community.
What will the year look like?
FA Belmont’s goal is to train players at a consistently high level. Our goal is to operate an energetic program that will allow students to excel as both players and individuals. FA Belmont will offer a comprehensive program both on and off the field. The on-field aspect will focus on skill development while the classroom component will allow students to gain greater knowledge of both the game and themselves. Classroom sessions will incorporate such things as anatomy and physiological knowledge, guest speakers, and the complexities of the game. The student athletes involved will have the opportunity to learn from some of the most knowledgeable instructors our soccer community has to offer. It is also our hope that players will appreciate that they are a part of something extremely special.
How will my child be assessed?
FA Belmont will focus on the primary methods of assessment including objective, subjective, and self-assessment. Students will be assessed on a daily basis with regard to their Behaviour, Effort, Attitude, and Participation. Students will also be assessed on written work, and skill development. Evaluation of FA Belmont students will be reported on a regular basis, including 4 formal reports (report cards) and two informal evaluations (phone calls, interim reports, etc).
ASSESSMENT:
BEAP 65-70%
Skill 10-15%
Written 15-20%
Thanks for your interest in FA Belmont, and we look forward to having the opportunity to work with you in the future.
